Just recently, I had a recurrence of an issue with sciatica. If you know, then you know! 😅 And if you don’t, you are blessed.

After nearly 20 years of no pain, I found myself asking, Why now? That question led me down an unexpected path of reflection about alignment.
When our bodies aren’t properly aligned, pain and discomfort usually follow. And honestly, the same is true in leadership.
Great leadership doesn’t just come from strategy, vision, or skill. It flows from alignment, when our body, soul, and spirit are moving in the same direction. When one of those areas drifts out of balance, it affects everything: our energy, our decision-making, and how we show up for others.
Three Areas of Alignment Every Leader Needs
Body – When we neglect our physical health, fatigue and stress cloud our judgment. The best ideas in the world don’t matter if we’re too depleted to carry them out.
Soul– Our mind, emotions, and will shape the stories we tell ourselves. If our internal dialogue is filled with fear or self-doubt, it limits how we lead.
Spirit – Our connection with God grounds us. It reminds us that our worth isn’t based on performance, but on identity. Strength flows when we’re anchored in something greater than ourselves.
The Stories We Tell Ourselves
In nearly every coaching session I’ve had, we eventually uncover a story, something a person has believed for years that quietly shapes how they think, lead, and live.
These stories often sound like:
* “I’m not enough.”
* “I’ll never change.”
* “I don’t have what it takes.”
Those are limiting beliefs, and at their root, they’re lies. Lies designed to keep us small, safe, and stuck.
As leaders, we have to confront those lies and replace them with truth. One of the most powerful tools I’ve seen is declaring “I AM” statements that reflect who God says we are:
* I am called to lead with courage.
* I am equipped for this moment.
* I am strong in body, soul, and spirit.
* I am a child of God, not defined by my failures.
When we lead from alignment, everything shifts. We move from insecurity to conviction, from striving to purpose.
A Challenge for This Week
Take a few moments to reflect:
* Am I aligned in body, soul, and spirit?
* What story am I believing about myself?
* What truth do I need to replace it with?
Leadership begins on the inside. When we’re aligned internally, our influence externally multiplies.
Let’s lead with integrity, energy, and purpose, fully aligned for the people we serve.
