I woke up this morning early, as I often do. I have learned to enjoy these moments of stillness. It’s always a time to reflect for me. I turned on an undecorated Christmas tree, along with soft Christmas music, a fake fireplace, and some harvest spice essential oil filling the air. Yeah, I am a person that enjoys the right atmosphere! Today is the day I introduce Karen Carpenter back into my set list!
As I reflect over the last ten years, the best word I can come up with is “change”. In my early 50’s, I had changed. The changes were not good. I became sloppy in my disciplines, which then followed through with my mindset and habits. That eventually led to borderline depression. Thankfully, I decided to do something about it. So, what did I learn?
*I learned that talking about change is not enough. You have to take some steps.
*I learned the value of authentic relationships. People who will celebrate with you, cheer you on and also push you to grow and stretch for more. Find a tribe.
*I learned that grandkids are pretty much rock stars!
*I learned that making life-changing decisions is tough, but necessary sometimes.
*I also learned that life can knock you down sometimes. Even though you didn’t choose what hit you, you get to choose how you respond to it.
*I learned the value of forgiveness.
*I learned pursuing dreams takes time, patience, and grit.
*I learned that saying yes to God doesn’t always mean things will work out perfectly at first. Yet we know He causes all things, in His time, to work out.
*I learned that the future is bright because He has a plan, and it’s a good one.
I could go on, but I think you get the message! I will be forever grateful for God’s touch on my body while still in my mother’s womb over 60 years ago. I’m thankful to be alive when she was told I wouldn’t be or that something would be severely wrong. I’m thankful for my wife and family. I’m especially thankful for this new decade. It’s one of mystery and intrigue but I’m ready to see what God has in store. 60 is the new 40!!! Lean into change. It can lead to great things!
